An otome game (乙女ゲーム, otome gēmu, literally meaning girl game) is a story based video game that is targeted towards a female market. Generally one of the goals, besides the main plot goal, is to develop a romantic relationship between the female player character and one of several male, or occasionally female characters.

What Would You Like to See in an Otome Game? (Aksys Games, continued)
This is a sort of continuation from this post.
“Thanks everyone for all your responses! We’re almost at 100 different answers! I’ve been reading all of them, and it’s just about enough for me to start compiling and sharing with our licensing team. No guarantees of immediate results, but everything you say will be taken into consideration when we look at future titles. It will help us determine which games will be better received outside Japan. Please keep contributing; the more answers we get, the better!" - June (Aksys Forum Admin)
They are listening to us. If you haven’t gone to this thread and shared your opinions I would recommend it.
Good news: I have permission from TetraScope to translate Watajuu.
Bad news: The engine doesn’t recognize single-byte characters, and none of the existing NScripter clones work with the game properly (as far as I can tell.)
If you know any programmers who compile on Windows or could help in any way, let me know please.
And Hatoful Boyfriend is officially up in the Steam Store!
USD$9.99 for the Regular version, and USD$14.99 for the Collector’s Edition!
Support Otome Games in America (Aksys Games)
When a fan wondered why Aksys didn’t comment on any of the otome game suggestions, June, an employee at Aksys’ Games had this to say:
"Popularity isn’t the only determining factor when we pick games. Cost, story, content, legal issues, availability of editors, time frames, etc… There are a lot of steps and a lot of reasons behind our choices. Due to NDAs we can’t talk about anything until it’s officially confirmed; we can’t even deny. I know silence sucks, but legally we have to stay silent." (x)
"The more (number wise, not quantity wise) people tell us what they like, the better we can gauge interest. The US market needs to tell us what they like!" (x)
Do you want Aksys to localize more otome games? You can help by posting suggestions and answering a few questions on their forum.
What would you like to see in an otome game?
Here’s a few questions that June asked:
- Would you buy an otome if it was digital release only?
- Did you buy any of the Hakuoki games or Sweet Fuse? What was your reason for buying them (initially, not after you played it)? Did the art draw you? The story? The devs/writers/artists/voice actors? Word of mouth?
- How did you hear about the otome you’re interested in? Is it only through anime? Do you follow the Japanese otome market? Do you watch for news from the voice actors?
- How much do you know about the otome you’re interested in? Do you read summaries, or look at PVs, or their websites?
What if your lover was 8-bit?
Well… as far as multi-tasking goes (gosh… ;w;), I already have Ken Ga Kimi started, waiting for it to be done will probably take a long time, so I’ll take on this cute little game called Dot Kareshi <3
Looking through the scripts, it’s quite short, so I’ll do all 3 games in the series (I, II and III). If you’re interested in spreading the otome love, we’re looking for TRANSLATORS (fluent in Japanese, the game’s pretty simple so no worries) and PROOFREADERS for the project!
Please spread the word for us! ^^
- We’re a team, and that means cooperation and communication. If there’s anything you don’t know or want to discuss, please say so.
- Be responsible? Pretty obvious already but I’ll just make sure :D
- Send me a progress update once a week (even if it’s “I was busy so haven’t got time to work on it” update, it’s fine too. This is just to make sure you’re alive. SSAS project already taught me too many lessons about people disappearing and it’s creepy.)
- If you’re busy or will be away for some time, please tell me as well.
- Please fill in this form if you’d like to join ^^!
Thank you and have a nice weekend~ I look forward to working with you all XD
