Keeping you updated on the latest in English otome games!
Here you'll find information about traditional visual novel style GxB otome games, RPGs with otome elements, as well as GxG games made for a female audience.
An otome game (乙女ゲーム, otome gēmu, literally meaning girl game) is a story based video game that is targeted towards a female market. Generally one of the goals, besides the main plot goal, is to develop a romantic relationship between the female player character and one of several male, or occasionally female characters.
Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town - True Love Edition
Falling in love is one of the most memorable moments in any Harvest Moon game. Unfortunately for some, it always seemed like you had to choose between who you wanted to be and who you wanted to love. I think some of you out there have been waiting for a game like this for a very long time now.
Friends of Mineral Town is arguably one of the best in the Harvest Moon series. With a bit of ingenuity (and some help from the great people at romhacking.net), I was able to edit in Claire (girl) over top of Pete (boy). Now Claire has a chance to woo the lovely ladies of Mineral Town, and Pete can choose between the town’s strapping young bachelors!

Then, the next day, as you’re about to fly back home, you get caught up in an investigation, and coming to your rescue is none other than a prince from last night! What’s more, he demands that you enter a contract marriage with him as thanks…you can’t turn down his command! Under contract, will you find true love?”

Dear Otome Fandom:
So recently there’s been a lot of hate directed at the heroine from the upcoming game, Gakuen K. For a rebuttal of that stupidity, I recommend reading this excellent post by danceanddestroy.
The complaints I see lobbed at this character are complaints I see thrown at any number of MCs; complaints that are not based on an individual personality within the context of its circumstances, but instead based on cultural differences, subjective taste, and on the basic tenants of characterization (like a heroine daring to have flaws!).
For everything else, all I want to say is this:
Women shouldn’t have to be written to meet your standard of acceptable for you to respect them. Strength comes in more than one form and I am sick of this fandom’s narrow definition of what a “strong woman” is, and even more so knowing it isn’t willing to apply the same standard to the male characters/love interests.
I am tired of reading posts bashing a heroine for not being a STRONG INDEPENDENT WOMAN© who can kick boxes, carry a gun and be an unbelievable sass master. I’m not begrudging people’s preferences or enjoyment of a certain character type; I’m annoyed by the fact that one type is seen as inherently superior to another. We allow love interests to have diverse and varying personalities but the heroines can only ever be one thing.
Strength can be defined mentally, emotional, and physically, and all three are equally important.
There are enough constraints on female characters as it is; stop creating more arbitrary hoops for them to jump through.

”Would you dance, practice the piano, or perhaps embroider a handkerchief? Take tea with your mother, visit an old friend, or ask after a new acquaintance, who just so happens to own a rather fetching waistcoat? Walk in the woods with a dashing companion, or discuss poetry with a reserved gentleman friend?
Experience life in the British Regency as a young gentlewoman, where you must maintain proper decorum, sharpen your wits, and find a suitable husband!”
This is a game released late last year by Tea for Three Studios! You can get it for iPhone here for USD$4.99.
Just a heads up: I’m going to be making a few posts for games that aren’t necessarily new, and that I somehow missed in the past. Sorry if these will be repeat news to some of you!
