As most of you probably already know, JAST USA made an announcement in 2011 that they would be looking into licensing the Starry Sky series. The following news article was posted on the Anime News Network on July 3rd, 2011:
"The game publisher JAST USA reported at its Anime Expo panel on Saturday that it is ‘looking into the process of licensing’ the Starry Sky project, Honeybee’s popular planetarium drama CD and game series. This otome game (games for female players) with bishōnen inspired an anime." (Source)Since then, there haven’t been many updates regarding it, but there have been a few. In November 2011, JAST USA said the following:"Starry Sky: We are still considering this title and talking with the publisher. There are additional factors, such as the Japanese voice actor talent agencies, which unfortunately complicate things for titles like this.
So that’s the current state of our future lineup. Please keep in mind that Japanese companies’ first priority is the Japanese market. Domestic projects will always take precedence over foreign endeavors, so anything we need them to do for us inevitably takes time. Rest assured that we are doing our very best to get these games out as quickly as possible while maintaining their quality. I’ll continue to give you updates as new information becomes available. If you have any questions about the status of these projects, post them here or on the forum and I’ll answer them as best I can.
It’s hard to say at this time what the chance of Starry Sky being published is. We recognize that there is a large fanbase out there, and we are definitely considering other otome games.” (Source)The latest update is from this year (May 9th 2012), which is in reply to a question asking if Starry Sky still has the possibility of an English release:”We’re still considering it, but the high cost of voice licensing remains an obstacle.”So there you have it; they’re trying to bring it over, but there have been some issues. If you’d like to show your support for the release, or have any questions, just leave a comment here, or discuss it on their forums.
